Lego Fusion Combining Physical Digital

Over the past year or so, tablets have become increasingly popular among kids, with many parents struggling to get their children to play with real toys again.

Cleverly picking up on this, Lego have found a compromise with their latest announcement, Lego Fusion.

Blurring the lines between physical and digital play, Lego have created four Lego Fusion games that enable the child to interact with the toy both physically and digitally using a corresponding tablet app and ‘capture’ building block.

For example, Lego Fusion Town Master enables the child to create a miniature city by building 2D structure (like the front of a house) on the capture block and then snapping a picture. The app then transforms the 2D image into a 3D virtual building.

Kids are encouraged to be creative and keep building via game prompts. For example, in Town Master you need to please the townspeople by building new facilities such as pizzerias, catching robbers or putting out fires.

Other Lego Fusion games include:

  • Lego Fusion Battle Towers – A game where kids need to get the best castle and fighters for the medieval batter
  • Lego Fusion Create & Race – A racing game where you build (and constantly improve) your own car in order to win races
  • Lego Fusion Resort Designer – Similar to Town Master, Lego Fusion Resort Designer also lets you decorate the interior of buildings.

Lego Fusion aims to drive kids back and forth from the tablet to brick building, giving kids no chance to get glued to the screen.
